Blood Transfusion

Auto-Transfusion Tourniquet

In emergency situations where time is critical, getting an ER patient a blood transfusion takes valuable time. The patient needs to have blood drawn, and a test needs to be done to find their blood type before a transfusion can begin. You have a whole liter of blood in your legs, and it's your blood - it doesn't have to be type-matched, it's already there. By applying the MBV in these critical-time situations, that liter of blood can be squeezed out of the legs and into the rest of the body, with the MBV tourniquet pushing the blood up into the vital organs. It's called an "auto transfusion tourniquet". In these and other time-critical situations, the MBV can be used as a "bridge to treatment/survival".
